Mustard Explained
A Mustard Dog carries the Gene Formula (ay-at/atBCDEGmrSt).This color is dominant in nature and will re-produce itself when bred to a dog that is the same color or to one that carries the Graying (G) gene provided the (A allele) remains the same. The base color of the dog is tan or sable and is born dark in color. As the pup matures he lightens to a mustard color.
If the (ay) tan gene is changed to an (A) black gene with the rest of the alleles remaining the same the dog will be Kerry Blue.
If the (ay) tan gene is changed to an (at) black and tan gene with the rest of the alleles remaining the same the dog will be Pepper.  If the (ay) tan gene is changed to an (as) saddle back gene with the rest of the alleles remaining the same the dog will be Yorkie Blue. If this dog also has white on the coat it means that the (S) gene would be replaced with one of these White producing gene patterns, (si, or sp) in any combination. For more info see White Chart.
