A Silver Dog carries
the Gene Formula (ABCdEGmrSt). This color only needs one graying gene (G)
in order to re-produce itself along with a double dose of the blue
(d) gene. This (d) gene makes it recessive in nature. If the double dilute
(dd) is not present this dog would be Kerry Blue in color.
If you breed a Silver dog to a dog that is blue you will also get some
of the Silver color because a blue dog carries a double dose of (d) blue
gene and the (G) gene can be present in a single dose. The pups are born
gray/blue and progressively turn Silver as they mature.
