Tan Explained
A Tan Dog carries the Gene Formula (ayBCDEgmrSt). This color is dominant in double dose to the colors Black and Tan, and Sable but recessive to Black. In order to produce a true Tan dog it must be bred to a dog of the same color or a Sable dog which carries the (ay) gene. It appears as a  Tan color and can vary in shade from light tan to dark rich shade. It is uniform in color throughout the dogs coat and always has a black nose. This color is exactly the same in formula to a Red Tan dog but appears very Tan  in color as opposed to rich Reddish Tan. This is due to the modifying genes that a dog carries and is usually breed specific.
