Lemon Explained
Lemon carries the Gene Formula (ABCDegmrSt). This color is recessive in nature and will re-produce itself Only when bred to a dog that is the same color or to one that carries the restrictive color (e) gene provided all the other alleles remain the same. This (e) gene restricts black pigment from forming and if it wasn't present in double dose the dog would be a black dog. It is this (e) gene that reduces the color of the dog to a red color and leaves no traces of black hair at all. It is the same formula as a Clear Red/Mahogany dog but appears as a light Lemon color rather than a red color. This is due to the modifying genes that the dog carries. It is genetically called the orange, lemon and red colors. The coat color is very clean and crisp appearing with very uniform color throughout the dogs coat. The lemon colored dog will have a black nose unless the base color is Chocolate.
Note: In some breeds like the Pointer, the dog is labeled Yellow when genetically it has the formula of a Chocolate dog with the addition of the (e) gene. It appears Lemon in color but has a brown or flesh colored nose.
