Charcoal Explained
A Charcoal/Dull Black Dog carries the Gene Formula (ABCdEgmrSt) and will reproduce its color if bred to a dog of the same color or to a dog that also carries the blue (d) gene. It is recessive in nature because two (d) genes are needed to produce the color. It can be mistaken for a black dog but usually has a flattening appearance in color that is not a rich black color. It has the same formula as a blue dog but presents itself in a different manner. This is attributed to Modifying genes. It may also be due to the theory of the color black being more than one type hense the blue blacks or red blacks or charcoals.
